Celebrating When It's Tough

A guest post from Ekow Ankumah….

The past month we have seen the Lord move in powerful ways in Capernaum and at Thomas Jefferson High School (TJ).  Starting a new Young Life Capernaum club in the public school system in Dallas has been tougher than anticipated but it has been really encouraging to see the Lord's faithfulness in the midst of some of our difficulties.  One of our biggest challenges has been our inability to meet parents, and in the past month we have met more parents (6) than we had met from September to March, which was one!

We also have had three students start to regularly attend Young Life clubs and other events where they are hearing about Jesus through our leaders as we walk through the story of Jesus walking on water found in Matthew 14!  At each of our clubs we look at different aspects of Jesus with the disciples on the Sea of Galilee.  Last week at our tennis club we got to hear about how Jesus not only rescued Peter when he was drowning but how he rescued all of us by taking our place on the cross!

There are 35 students in the special education classrooms at TJ and our volunteers have faithfully and consistency gone to the school each week to hang out with students in the cafeteria for breakfast as well as build trust with teachers!  We started out last semester with two volunteers and have lost one (due to a move) but have added two more for a total of three with two more potential volunteers prayerfully considering to join the team.  These volunteers have been an answer to prayer and some have seemingly come out of nowhere, which is a testament to the Lord and his faithfulness.  It has been really awesome to see some of the fruit of building relationships with students and teachers each week turn in to teachers wanting to speak on our behalf with parents so that their children will come to Young Life events!

As I hope you can see, we have lots to praise the Lord for here in Texas and I know that your faithful prayers and support have played a huge role in enabling us to continue going to schools faithfully each week and building relationships with students and teachers!

Please keep praying for our ministry!  Please pray that we would be able to meet more parents so that we can personally invite their children to Young Life and that we would be able to recruit more volunteers that want to enter the world of students with disabilities from a variety of backgrounds!

Thank you so much!!!
