Capernaum in Singapore

Oh y'all, don't miss this video!  It is an incredible picture of inclusion ministry, going the extra mile (by mile I mean ocean) for our friends and ultimately a stunning perspective from Solveig's parents.  #sacredmoments Young Life Singapore - Solveig from Davis Louie on Vimeo .

Good Ol' Zach

Image
Are you doing a club talk on Zacchaeus soon?   Try out this great visual from our friend Andy Davenport ... Hand out two pennies to every kid at the beginning of your talk.  When talking about Zacchaeus, you could walk around and take one penny from everyone.  (Knowing some of our friends may have a hard time with that!)  But as you finish the story and he gives back 4 times as much, you could walk around and give them 4 pennies. When we are in a relationship with Jesus, he changes out heart.  And when our hearts are changed, our actions change.  What an awesome way to help our friends see and experience the gospel!   Thanks Andy!

I watched the Gospel

A guest post by Erin Hibbs A moment to brag on Young Life Capernaum. Tonight I was shaking in my chukka desert boots as I walked up to the brick house with a sparkly banner hung up by Razorback duct tape. I have never had an extended amount of time to work with students with special needs so I came in with zero idea of how I needed to act or what I needed to do. I don’t actually know if I was even supposed to be there seeing that I am only about 6 weeks into leadership training, but I was by the true grace of God. When I say “grace of God” I don’t mean it in the way our society has altered it but literally the true grace and mercy from God that blessed me with the opportunity to experience love in a new way.  I watched as the leaders waved the cars down from where they became visible at the start of the street up until the tires stopped in front of the heaven on earth that was the brick house. I watched them get genuinely excited as they opened up the door for their friends th

Friends News

Image
Here's a great way to give some of your friends the chance to be up front at club! Friends News.... Have two friends, dressed as newscasters, come out to share the news of their friends and what's going on at their schools with newscaster music playing in the background.   Show this great slide behind them.  From time to time, have them call on a friend in the audience to give the weather news or a report from their school regarding a sporting event, school play or some other news.   Thanks for the great idea Austin Capernaum!

A Nudging Ministry

Image
A guest post by Lyn TenBrink Capernaum|Campaigners|Discipleship Yes,   all those words are on the same line.   They should be.   All 3 words are part of our YL mission statement. We are a ministry that introduces adolescents to Jesus Christ and helps them grow in their faith. It’s that plain and simple even in Capernaum.   It seems many of us are paralyzed by the possibilities of what Campaigners could look like for our friends. Well to get over our fear below are some simple steps toward helping our friends grow in their faith.   Maybe you and your team can take 1 simple step toward Capernaum campaigners: Start a campaigners group. Just do it!   Your life will never be the same! Read a scripture a few times and let friends give you words they hear or feel when they hear the scripture. Draw, choose a color, share an experience those words make them think of.   Repeat what works each week and keep the same format. Read a gospel story, read it again.   Wh

Ding Dongs All Around

Image
Why crunch into an apple when you can have a Ding Dong?!   Break out a few packages of Ding Dongs and have your friends bob for Ding Dongs in bowls of milk! Don't forget the trash bags for your friends to wear, a roll of paper towels and of course, your tarp. Try it at your club and send us your great photos. Thanks Charlotte Capernaum for the great idea!

Newspaper Anyone?

Image
Looking for a great mixer that easily involves every kid in the room...  try this at your next club! Newspaper Mixer- Split the room in two, give each group a stack of newspaper          Host 3 Rounds:            1. Everyone lies down and has to cover themselves completely with Newspaper            2. Still in teams, ball up all the newspaper and throw as much on the other team's side as possible            3. Give each team a trash bag- whoever can fill their trash bag with newspaper first Thanks Knoxville YL and Charlotte Capernaum for the great idea!

Art & Talent

Image
Here is an incredible idea for a night of celebrating Young Life Capernaum in your town.  It's a night for your friends to shine, for leaders and friends to work together, for parents to see their child be a star, for funds to be raised and ultimately, for an enormous display of the deep love of Jesus.   "Our Art & Talent Show began as a simple opportunity for us to showcase and celebrate our Capernaum friends for one night.  It has grown organically into an event that is hosted in an Art Gallery and has over 30 individual acts performing on stage.  It is hands down, without question, the best event that our ministry does. It blesses our friends who get to be the stars, it blesses their families who get to witness their child being cheered on and celebrated, and it blesses the community who are encouraged and get to see joy manifested.  The art that our Capernaum friends do is done by asking them to paint whatever it is that reminds them that God loves them (we hav

Sacred Moments

We love this video of our friends Joe and Ryan because we feel that it gives viewers a glimpse into what life in Capernaum is really like.  It’s where our friends are celebrated, it’s true friendship, it’s a place for our friends to lead able-bodied teenagers and ultimately it’s where God is glorified in all that we do. We would love to gather videos from around the mission that capture sacred moments like the one in this video.  If you have any, would you send them our way?  If not, would you consider filming these moments, which for you, may be everyday moments, and then send them along to us?  We want the world to see the power of Christ at work within this ministry and we need your help! #sacredmoments Joe and Ryan from YL Capernaum Ministries on Vimeo .
