Jeremiah 29:11 in Bulgaria

Image
This story is from Kathy Usrey , who you have "met" through another blog post. We are so encouraged by all that our staff and volunteers are doing to build Capernaum internationally. They won’t stop at no. They don’t believe in kids being hidden away in homes or orphanages. They, like the four men in Mark chapter 2, are willing to go to any length to bring kids with disabilities to experiences with Jesus. When we read this great story from our friend Kathy Usrey, we couldn’t wait to share it with you all! Would you join us in praying for all of the folks who are doing International Capernaum? May you too be witnesses of Jeremiah 29:11! Heading to the bowling alley! We had our third Capernaum Day camp in November in Pernik, Bulgaria, and boy were we blown away!! Because of the relationship and trust between the Orphanage director and myself, I was able to ask her last Spring if we could do something special with the teenagers, teenagers with Cerebral Palsy, Downs sy

Play! Learning from our Friends - Jaco J. Hamman

Jaco Hamman is a wise man and friend who loves Young Life dearly. He serves as the teacher for YL’s training timeline class, “Personal Health and Ministry”. But more than that, his heart is keen for our friends with disabilities. He knows and understands the beauties and challenges that come with doing ministry with our friends with disabilities and speaks so beautifully into some unique ways that we can continue to learn from our friends.  Jaco has written multiple books, including “ A Play-Full Life: Slowing down and seeking peace ” which would be a great follow up read from this post for you. Jaco is also on the Board of Friendship House which works alongside persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (friends), their families and institutions to secure safe, affordable community-oriented housing. We are honored to have Jaco contribute to our blog and to encourage us as we continue to do ministry with our friends with disabilities! Play! Learning from our

Psalm 139 Video

Young Life in Dublin, Ohio put together this great video to show at their banquet! We love seeing all of the creative ways that our ministries are sharing about Capernaum in their areas! Send us your video too! Psalm 139:1-16 For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

Beyond Limits

Image
Paul and Nan Bertelson, long time Capernaum leaders, have been involved with starting a college program (Beyond Limits) for young adults with disabilities.  Beyond Limits is on the campus of Bethany Global University (BGU) in Bloomington, MN.  It's been an amazing experience to watch God at work orchestrating this program.  However, one surprise has been a barrier they are running into when recruiting potential new students. They are finding that parents are saying, “We haven't saved any money for 'Susie' to go to college.  We never thought it was a possibility.  If she goes to this program, it means her sister won't be able to go to college.”   So, a challenge is how to get the word out to parents BEFORE their kids are 21. Do you share this passion for your friends as you look ahead to their future? Will you share the Beyond Limits program with some of your friends and their families?   Do you have contacts with other Christian college campuses across t
