Washed With Tears- Part 1

The first lesson of the four part campaigner series put together by staff in the Tennessee Region!

Washed With Tears
Lesson 1

Intro Discussion
In Campaigners this semester, we are going to focus on an encounter that Jesus had with a woman who gave all that she had to Jesus because of how much she loved him.  Other people thought she was crazy for it and didn’t understand her, but Jesus did and he was so grateful for this woman and her heart.  We’re going to talk about the woman, the other people in the story and about Jesus… we’ll get to talk about how we are like or unlike each of these people and how we can show our gratitude and love for Jesus.

Read Scripture
Washed with Tears (Sinful woman anointing Jesus)- Pages 280-285 in Jesus Storybook Bible.  Located in Mark 14, Luke 7 and John 12.

Today’s Focus
Page 284-  “She knows she’s a sinner.  She knows she’ll never be good enough.  In her heart she knows she needs Jesus to rescue her.  She loves Jesus so much and knows He’s God’s son”.

Discussion Questions
1. How are the people acting?
2. Tell us about a time when you needed help with something?
Who did you ask for help?
3. Tell us about a time where you showed love or gratitude to someone?
What were you grateful for?  Who did you do it for?
4. How do we come to Jesus?
         Worship, prayer, service...
5. Tell us about a time where you came to Jesus in one of these ways.

Activity
Provide each friend with:
·                     * A small mason jar
·                     * Small sheets of paper (Post-It Note size)
·                     * Pens or markers
Have friends and leaders write down what they are grateful for, as well as the things that they love about Jesus.
Explain that much like how the woman stored her most precious thing in the jar, we can store our most precious thoughts about Jesus in our jars.  Share with your friends that we will add to these jars each time we meet for campaigners, and that they can add to them on their own at home.

Pray
Have your friends share ways that they would like the group to pray for them.

Take time to pray for these things as a group, allowing your friends the chance to pray for one another.
