Campaigners for Capernaum Friends

Campaigners is often an area where Capernaum leaders find themselves stuck.  We begin to ask questions about whether or not our friends understand or if they can go deeper, we wonder how to help them grow into new places, we get intimidated by the dynamics of the varying disabilities and so much more.

Yet, when we sit around and share stories of life with our friends, time and again, we come back to all of the ways that our friends blow us away with their understanding of Jesus.  Sometimes they show us in behavior and sometimes in a profound statement here or there and sometimes even within the context of a bible study.  We know our friends long for growth in their walks with Jesus and we have the gift of helping them do that as their YL leaders.

A group of staff in Tennessee came together and spent half of a day talking about campaigners and some of the ways that our friends could best thrive in it.  We came up with some overarching thoughts as well as four campaigner lessons.

Some overarching thoughts:

  • Break everyone up into small groups (2 leaders with 3-5 friends)
  • Invite your friends to participate verses an announcement at club
  • Meet in the same place each time
  • Start with once a month
  • Consider sitting in the same passage all semester (especially if already doing this in club).  Take a different, deeper approach than in club
  • Consider discussing components of walking with Jesus- prayer, worship, etc
  • Take time to pray together every time that you meet
  • Simple is profound

Have more thoughts to share??  .... we'd love to hear them.

Stay tuned for the four campaigner lessons...
